Breed Information:
Dogs were the only beast of burden utilized by Native Americans before the Spaniards introduced the horse in the mid 1500's and played a vital role in the lives and cultures of the First Americans. They
used their dogs to hunt & fish, pull a travois carrying the family's belongings, and as "babysitters" for the children and elderly of the village while the women collected roots, berries & herbs.
The Native American Indian Dog ® was created by breeding two dogs from two separate reservations in the Sawtooth Mountains with Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Chinook and German Shepherd. The Siberian Indian Dog adds a little more Siberian Husky to the bloodline. This combination has produced a dog very similar in appearance and versatility to the original dogs of Native Americans. The Siberian Husky's tendency to roam is offset by the pack-loving nature of the Native American Indian Dog and the Native American Indian Dog's tendency to be shy and reserved is offset by the friendly, fun-loving, and playful nature of the Siberian Husky.
Uses:
The Siberian Indian Dog is bred to be an integral part of family life and will do whatever you and your family enjoy doing as well as being faithful and loyal family pets. The Siberian Indian Dog enjoys hiking, backpacking, skijoring, mushing, carting, agility, hunting, and excels at Search and Rescue and as therapy dogs.
The Siberian Indian Dog is NOT aggressive and does not make good attack dogs.
